These can also work well as part of the advent wreath ceremony.
Many churches are used to lighting candles of hope, peace, joy, and love. This is written for that tradition, using scriptures for the day from the Revised Common Lectionary.
In places where the tradition is to use families to light the Advent wreath, it is advised that family be defined by Christ—as those groups seeking to follow the Lord—not just as biological family.
Even the smallest children, who cannot read yet, can participate by announcing why we’re lighting the various candles.

Use this packet with your congregation as you recognize Caregiver Sunday 2012, which occurs on November 11 this year but can be observed at any time during the year. Our theme is "Shelter from the Storm" with a focus on helping family caregivers plan for evacuation events.
This grant is intended to provide funding to presbyteries in support of their efforts to develop a process for helping congregations to begin and continue a transformational way of life. Transformation is the process of intentionally moving into a new reality and way of being that helps congregations envision what God is calling them to be for their community and for the Kingdom of God. All churches are in some state of being transformed and presbyteries must have resources available to assist them.
