They’ve traveled from across the country. Ministers and ecumenical partners are in Louisville this week to pay tribute to the Reverend Robina Winbush. The Associate Stated Clerk and Director of Ecumenical and Agency Relations in the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.)’s Office of the General Assembly, died suddenly in March after returning from a visit to the Middle East.
The group is joining PC(USA) staff for worship and conversation around the future of ecumenical work. Participants include representatives from the Christian Methodist Episcopal Church, The Episcopal Church, Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, The Moravian Church, Reformed Church in America, United Church of Christ, United Methodist Church, as well as the National Council of Churches in the U.S.A., Pontifical Council for Promoting Christian Unity, Progressive National Baptist Convention, Reformed Church in America, World Alliance of Reformed Churches, World Council of Churches, among others.
Hundreds of mourners gathered on Friday to say goodbye to the Rev. Robina Winbush, who died March 12 at age 61. A procession of clergy, accompanied by African drumming, opened the funeral/worship service at Broad Street Presbyterian Church in her native Columbus, Ohio.
The service was officiated by the Rev. Dr. Diane Moffett, president and executive director of the Presbyterian Mission Agency, who also led the worshippers in hymns and prayer.

She was deplaning in New York when she collapsed at the airport.

A coalition of Christian leaders that includes the Reverend Robina Winbush of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) has released a statement tied to Easter calling for the end of the war on drugs and mass incarceration.
“The ministry of Jesus the Christ was about challenging unjust systems that held individuals and marginalized communities in bondage,” says Winbush, the PC(USA)’s Associate for Ecumenical Relations and President of Churches Uniting In Christ. “He empowered his disciples to touch lives and tear down strongholds of captivity. He commissioned them to care for the most vulnerable in society and give witness to the reign of God marked by justice.”
