The National Council of Churches is pleased to welcome the Reverend Tammy Wiens as the director of Christian education and faith formation. Wiens will begin in this new position on February 1, 2018.
Wiens comes to us after a year of ministry in the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) national office as associate for Christian formation. In this capacity she nurtured, equipped, and inspired Christian educators, campus pastors, and spiritual leaders through web resources, curriculum development, workshops, and mentoring.
Our hearts are broken once again with the news of another mass shooting in our nation.
Yesterday, twenty-six worshipers at the First Baptist Church in Sutherland Springs, Texas, were killed by a man armed with a semiautomatic rifle. Their ages ranged from 5 to 72 years old. We pray for these victims and their families, for their fellow parishioners, friends, and neighbors, and for all of our sisters and brothers in the Southern Baptist Convention, the denomination to which this congregation belonged.

While not excusing the “unfortunate choice of language and careless posturing of [North Korean leader] Kim Jong Un, the letter insists that the president has “a responsibility to act with probity, tact, and care.”
