The Rev. Joel Ortega Dopico of the Presbyterian Reformed Church of Cuba was elected as the new president of the Council of Churches of Cuba (CIC), at the Council’s assembly held in Havana last weekend.
The National Council of Churches in the U.S. and the Council of Churches of Cuba have issued a joint statement calling for reconciliation between the two countries and committing themselves to “pray for the guidance of the Holy Spirit that our churches may bear witness to God’s will for justice in economic life.”
Commemorative activities leading up to the 70th anniversary of the Council of Churches of Cuba (CIC) on May 28, have begun with the honoring of some 40 leaders of the ecumenical movement in the Province of Matanzas, men and women who have served the cause of ecumenism in that region of the country through their witness and service.
